Music that lowers the volume of the day

Relaxing is harder than it sounds. After hours of screens and noise, silence can feel empty, while most music still asks for something: attention, energy, an emotional reaction. Jazz lo-fi sits in between. The tempo is unhurried, the sound is soft around the edges, and the small imperfections, a little vinyl crackle, a slightly loose drum pattern, make it feel human and close rather than polished and distant.

Jazz harmony adds the comfort. Seventh and ninth chords, the vocabulary of late-night piano bars, sound familiar even to people who never listen to jazz, and lo-fi producers loop them so they can unfold slowly, without the pressure of a solo or a big finish.

Ways to use it

Put it on when you get home and want to mark the end of the working day. Use it while cooking, reading, tidying, or sitting by a window with a hot drink. It works well with low light and few distractions, so it is worth leaving the phone in another room for a while and letting the music be the only thing playing.

Lo-fi is also a good companion for small creative rituals that are not work: sketching, journaling, playing with plants, building a puzzle. The steady rhythm gives the hands something to follow while the mind slows down.

Make it a habit

Relaxation becomes easier when it has a cue. Using the same stream or the same artists every evening teaches your routine that this sound means the day is over. After a while, pressing play is enough to change the mood of the room.

Where to listen

The Mondolofi live stream on YouTube is always on, and the Spotify player on this page picks one of our artists at random each time you spin it.
